USR Company History
From an innovation in barrier technology, now known as the GRAB®, USR was founded in 1994 by Matt Gelfand, president and CEO of the company today. After seeing the need for a safer barrier following a tragic accident at a railroad crossing in New York, Matt Gelfand, a volunteer firefighter at the time, came up with the concept for the GRAB®. From there, he was dedicated to involving clients and end users in all markets to aid in designing the most flexible, cost-efficient, reduced-risk barrier in the world.
Prior to the invention of the GRAB®, reduced-risk barriers had long run-off distances of up to 200 feet and rigid barriers, such as hydraulic bollards and wedge barriers, were costly and potentially dangerous. USR answered the call for a reduced-risk, K12 certified barrier solution with the GRAB® and changed the face of barrier technology.
By April 2005, USR was established as a reputable provider of active vehicle barriers by the U.S. government through its award of GSA Contract #GS-07F-5792R.
USR continues to walk with its clients every step of the way in the design and development of all of its products, making USR the innovative security solutions provider.
