USR | Crash Rated Beam

Components
USR's Crash Rated Beam is comprised of three main components: hinge buttress, beam (arm), and receiver buttress.

The hinge and receiver buttresses are manufactured of steel components and welded steel elements. The hinge and receiver buttress assemblies are treated with hot-dip galvanizing and painted black.

The hinge buttress assembly includes internal bearings along a stain-less steel axle to allow the beam to rise from 0° to 85° – 87°. The hinge buttress includes a cushioning device to reduce beam oscillation when reaching the full open position while operating within the normal design speeds. The hinge buttress includes two covers to conceal the operable components and protect from debris, ice or snow accumulation.

The receiver buttress is designed to guide the beam into place when lowered and retain the beam during vehicle impact. The receiver buttress includes a locking pin which can be utilized to prevent un-authorized operation of the unit when unattended.

The beam is constructed of a rectangular aluminum extrusion. The mill finish is enhanced with red and white safety tape to increase visibility. A steel cable is installed in the beam and anchored with the assistance of stainless steel rods at each end. The cable is the primary component for energy absorption during a vehicle impact. The secondary energy absorbing components are the buttresses and corresponding foundations.

USR Model Crash Rated Beam
USR's model is a vehicle barrier with a cable reinforced beam. The barrier is crash rated from the Department of Navy and tested to stop a 10,000 pound vehicle traveling at 18 MPH. The unit is available for traffic lanes with clear openings between 12 feet and 18 feet wide. The beam rotates in an arc from 0° to 85° (minimum) - 87° (maximum).
